1969 GB - Investiture 5d Strip - Queens Head Misplaced MNH

£85.00

SG802ax NO OFFERS Striking Error from the 5d strip of Investiture of H.R.H The Prince of Wales.

As you can see the head placement is so far off it carries on into the margin of each stamp.

I originally listed this at £2,500 but I invite any offers from knowledgeable collectors.

You can see from the image of the normal issue below how erroneous the head placement is. This is an Unlisted Error as far as I can find.

Issued: 1st July 1969.

Update 2010-006-09
I have been informed by a knowledgeable collector that if I were to put this into auction, based on past information this item would attract approximately £700 so I have reduced the price to you to LESS THAN £100.

Quote from informant:
My research found that one full sheet with this error was discovered. It appears that during the printing process the sheet rotated slightly about a pivot point somewhere near the bottom left corner. This means that the misalignment is more noticeable the further the stamps from the pivot point. (Near the pivot point the movement is barely noticeable.) I would say that the amount of misplacement on the strip you are offering indicates that it is from near the top of the sheet. A positional block, the 'traffic light' block of 9 from the bottom right corner of the sheet, with slightly more misalignment than your strip, was sold by Embassy Philatelics a few years ago. It had provenance of being 'ex Baillie Collection' : Embassy were offering it for sale at about £1350-00.
