Quick Site Guide
This page contains a basic guide to moving around the site, explains some of the terminology and method of operation plus a guide to delivery charges.
- Site Navigation
- First of all - Use the menus on the left side bar if you know roughly what you want to find and explode the menu until you reach the level you are searching for.
- However, because philately is such a wide ranging subject - in some areas there are currently up to 6 layers to reach the bottom level. The listing of DAVO albums is a good example. If you know exactly what you want, I suggest using the SITE MAP (again on the left hand bar under the header "INFORMATION").
- As this is structured similar to a directory listing in Windows Explorer you can very quickly find the page you are looking for. As you frequent the site more often you will soon get used to the structure - I have tried to make it as intuitive and logical as possible - but no two people think completely alike.
- Most of the directory, such as the country or royalty references are self-explanatory, however there are a couple that may be confusing to the first time visitor - so a quick run through some of the more esoteric entries.
- Accessories - Contains products such as Albums, Catalogues, Stamp Collecting Software and Implements (e.g. UV Lights, Mount Cutters etc), Mounts for Albums and other similar items.
- Downloads - Contains e-books, "home-made" album pages etc that you will be able to download if you have the necessary password. Some will be free, others will require payment before they can be downloaded.
- A quick navigation tip:
If you are in a section that has lots of pages, you can go forward or backward in "5 page" jumps by pressing the "...." (dots) in the page numbers e.g. hitting the "dots" in the following sequence will take you straight to page 6.
1 2 3 4 5 ... [Next >>]
- Last but by no means least. If you know even one word of the Product you are searching for - enter it into the "Search" box - top left of the Navigation pane. This isn't the best way as item sorting can be unpredictable between differing product types.
- Collecting Terminology
- There are three main categories of items sold:
- MNH - Mint Never Hinged or Unmounted Mint - this is the type I sell most of - and if for whatever reason none of the three categories are mentioned (in the sale of booklets for example) you can readily assume that the item is Unmounted with no trace of a hinge.
- MM - Mounted Mint - These are items that have been previously hinged or have gum disturbance that may have been caused by hinging (or more probably by poor mounting) - I tend not to sell single types of MM stamps if issued in the modern era - if they are GB stamps I will use them for postage. Older issues for sale (and blocks where only one or two are mounted) are exceptions and will be marked as such if they are Mounted. There are degrees of mounting between Very Light and Heavy ... however each person's view is different as to which category they belong to. If they are very heavy I will say so otherwise take them as Lightly Mounted.
- FU - Fine Used - I don't discriminate between VFU (Very Fine Used) and FU. You should be able to tell from the supplied image but if in any doubt, contact me and I will try to give you a more complete description.
- There are three main categories of items sold:
- Method of Operation
- Purchasing An Item The first time you purchase an item(s) you will be guided through a Registration process. If you want to be able to track your purchase you will have to register. This only happens the first time and any subsequent visit will only require you to login to either check on your purchase or to buy more items. It is not mandatory to register (or even login) to purchase an item, but you will have to send me an email to notify me of your requirements and will lengthen the whole process, especially if you are a returning customer. Obviously it is not mandatory to browse the site.
- Paying For An Item At this moment in time I have limited payment options although I expect to enlarge these as the site becomes more sophisticated.
- To be delivered to a UK Address:
- Cash in GBP. Don't send coins and wrap notes in tinfoil or suchlike to hide the fact. Round up to the nearest note and I will return change in mint GB stamps. You should send this recorded, not that you will be insured against loss but at least it is traceable. Not a recommended payment option but available if required.
- £ Cheque on a UK bank ONLY. I cannot accept cheques on foreign banks or in any other currency due to the high conversion charges.
- PayPal to the address "kz1qrt@gmail.com". There is NO additional charge to use this option. NOCHEX to the address "dave@davesgame.com". There is NO additional charge to use this option.
- Inter-bank transfer - This option is available but not built into the site. Please use the contact page or another form of email for details.
- To be delivered to an Address outside the UK:
- Cash in GBP or Euros (use XE.com to convert from GPB to E). Don't send coins and wrap notes in tinfoil or suchlike to hide the fact. Round up to the nearest note and I will return change in mint GB stamps or the country of your residence if I have them (e.g. currently Canada or US). You should send this recorded, whether you are insured against loss is up to your Postal Authority but at least it is traceable. Not a recommended payment option but available if required.
- PayPal to the address "kz1qrt@gmail.com" - payable in GBP only. There is NO extra charge to use this option.
- Sorry NO cheques drawn on foreign banks or inter-bank transfers as it is prohibitively expensive to convert to GBP.
- To be delivered to a UK Address:
- Delivery Charges and Volume Discounts
- Easy: If you spend more than £100 on stamp items, postage is FREE.
- Under £100 - I have one simplified shipping charge: Minimum £1 and then 20p per item thereafter whatever the item is period.
