This reminds me why I stopped collecting commeratives many years ago....what a very poor design compared to the Shakespeare £sd issue.

Right, I thought that after a week or so they would grow on me or I would read some commentary that brings out the underlying beauty.
I don't know, perhaps when I see the actual stamps I'll be impressed.

The portraits of the actors are well-done, but all that messy text rather spoils the image, I think.

On the other hand, the miniature sheet has nothing going for it at all.

And I guess we're no longer worried at all about picturing living non-royals. Remember the big fuss some years ago over the still-living drummer on the Freddie Mercury stamp?

I am not a fan of Commemorative (or Special) stamps at the best of times but I don't mind a good design - I find most GB aeroplane stamps have good designs for example - but these latest "whatever they are supposed to be" are horrendous. Possibly the worst design in my living memory.
