Hi

can someone tell me where stamps are being traded at present ?

I have some I wish to dispose of, but looking at Ebay , it looks dead, very few bids, very few selections

Are others using alternative sites these days ?

Many Thanks

Bionic

Hi Bionic,
Here are a couple of my views.

first of all - all sites (auction or otherwise) are always relatively quiet this time of year they tend to pick up late September, early October once the holidays are over.

To your actual question:
There are a couple of other auction sites neither of which attract many buyers;
Ebid ; http://uk.ebid.net/perl/posting.cgi?mo=account-auth
Delcampe ; http://stamps.delcampe.com/page/main/language,E.html
Of the two Delcampe seems to do best but it can be a bit slow. I have tried several items on eBid and sold very very few. Ebid is global, Delcampe is European.

I am not sure where you are selling from but If you have stamps to sell from the American continent try:
StampWants ; http://www.stampwants.com/
or
StampOffers ; http://www.stampoffers.com/login.asp?return=myauction%2Easp%3Ftab%3Dactive

StampWants is probably your better bet - the only problem with both of these is you pretty much have to list by Scott number as it is very US/Canadian centric.

There are a couple of others that are even smaller so I don't think this is what you will be looking for.

Much as I hate to say it eBay is still the best option for Sellers (but not necessarily for Buyers - see note at the bottom of this post).

Lastly on your other point -I find eBay boring these days too - since they introduced the 99p free listing (on eBay co.uk at least) it is full of pages of rubbish that you have to wade through to find anything interesting. There are for instance a lot of "non-stamp collectors" who think that because they have a scruffy used 4d 1968 Xmas stamp it must be worth at least 99p - well it is over 30 years old after all!!!!

A word for buyers on eBay especially - (as I have a site I sell from I keep a fairly close eye on competitors pricing) - and one of the things I have noticed lately is that in many cases - especially the "Buy Now" items you can often obtain the same item cheaper (and more reliably in most cases) from "off-eBay" sites. As always do your research before assuming eBay will be cheaper. Watch especially for the heavily loaded postage charges.

This is not the site where I would normally bring this sort of thing up - but I feel it only fair to explain to our multi-national membership an explanation for your "gritted teeth".

A Gooner = an Arsenal FC supporter
A Toffee = an Everton FC supporter

The 2009/10 Football season (soccer to many of you) has just started in the UK and the first game featured Everton at home to Arsenal.

The result I will let you look up yourself on the Internet as you may not be interested in foootball, and remembering the phrase that starts "he who laughs last ..... etc".

However for those who might be interested to save you some time here is a video link:

For non English " Knuckle sandwich" = punch on the nose
similar to SON for stamp cancellation

LOL (or rather Cries out Loud )

FleaBay's reputation = in the sewer!

PayPal's reputation = in the sewer!

You'd be better off selling up on www.my-little-auctions.com , www.overstock.com or www.wensy.com .

Aidan.

Question for anyone...I have been purchasing machins for years from Denis Stevens. Over the past week his website has been down and when I emailed him it came back as undeliverable. Has anyone heard anything? Is he still in business and just having protracted internet problems?

Thanks

Mark

Thanks, that worked. There was an additional extension on the http: address and I don't know where it came from. Funny though how his email also bounced back as undeliverable.

Since then we have improved site's speed. Do you confirm it is better now ?

Do you usually use the site and enjoy it ? If not, why ? Smile

Thank you, Seb Delcampe

Hi Seb

Sorry it has taken a while to respond - my day job gets in the way

Regretfully, I have left your site for selling my stamps. It was working exceptionally well and I was getting a good number of sales and these were slowly increasing as my reputation and clients increased.
However, one day, without warning, you removed all my sales ( about 400+ from memory ) as I had not logged on for a period of time. ( a short time at that )

I would have been happier if you had sent me an email first such as " are you still alive ? " or "please log on or we will remove your listings "
I am sure you have your reasons for these actions, but there is no need to log on that regularly as you send an email when a sale has been made.

I am sure you can understand my frustration as the time I had invested in loading these stamps up was then totally wasted - not an experience I wished to repeat. Likewise I wasted my money on enhanced membership and software

I trust you will appreciate this as constructive critism
