Hi there , In a recent box of auction miscellaneous I found a 3 purple castles ? prob enschede with the gold queens head missing still on paper & with a complete cds ,however in the catalogue I have there is no value for a used one .
does this mean;- one hasnt been found ?? or it isnt worth so much as the mint one.
does anyone know ??any idea of its value?? Also do I have to have it checked as not being a fake ( not likely ) before I try to sell it ??
AND where would be the best place ebay ?? stamp auction ??
sorry a lot of questions.

Some difficult questions to answer and I can only offer hypotheses in most cases.

You really need to load up an image, but on the basis of never seeing the stamp in question.

More than likely a fake. You need to check with a high powered scope to see if there has been any interference (tampering) with the stamp - such as the removal of the gold head. This is more difficult on a used stamp than mint as it has been through the postal system.

It probably isn't listed because there was a scandal with reference to removing the gold from 1960's stamps, I am guessing that SG no longer recognises such an aberration due to this.

No-one on this site (unless we are lucky enough to have an expertiser as a member) will know of a value. If you really need a value you will have to have it rated by an "expert" (more than likely there will be a charge for this).

I think the result of the expertising will determine where you sell it.

hi Dave,
As requested and although it took a while the stamp has been expertised as genuine!! Good news!
I've had alittle searc around & talking to a couple of auction places & it seems used ones are pretty scarce.
I understand ". Peter Shaw is the expert but I can't find a contact details for him.
Anyway my intention is to sell it but I am trying to decide which auction to send it to, any preferences??

Hi Trev,

nice find. With regard to which auction house to use, I would do a little shopping around, but for something as specialist as this (and with a cert to boot), I would suggest Grosvenor is probably the place to be. I suspect their fees will be higher than others, but they have about the highest profile for GB material and hence more eyes looking at the catalogue......more eyes increases your chances of a sale and of a better price. Of course, as with all auctions, there is a certain gamble to the outcome.

It might also be worth trying a few of the bigger name dealers. Most are friendly enough and you might get a decent price for it and save yourself the auction hassles.

Other auction houses worth a look might be;
Cavendish
Gibbons
Universal

Hope that helps get you rolling.
