Without better scans I can't really see anything resembling a shift.
What you mention sounds like phosphor bands.

If you use a solvent containing n-hexane (Coleman fuel, Fuelite etc) then after removal from paper another dip in solvent and the adhesive can be scraped off. I use an old credit card to avoid damage.

Royal Mail have a large stall at stampex and you should be able to get anything there.
